Online Technology and Social Media Training

As a service to members, TIA organised online technology and social media training with a practical hands on element. Those who attended the workshops learnt a variety of skills in three main areas:

  • Website Marketing
  • Social Media
  • Analytics

Discover how to use Google’s keyword tool to find out which keywords would be best for your business, how and where to add these keywords, and why this is important.  Learn about Social Media sites like Facebook, Tripadvisor, Twitter and Flickr, how to set up a blog, how to get bloggers to talk about you and many other useful tools.

This training was run by Lawrence Smith from Cabbage Tree Creative.  Lawrence has a great deal of experience in this field as well as within the tourism sector.  Cabbage Tree has worked on some fantastic websites within the industry, Mt Ruapehu and Mainstay Hotels New Zealand and TIA’s being just a few examples.

TIA members can access the notes and a video presentation from these workshops in the members only section.

Speaker Bio: Lawrence Smith – Cabbage Tree Creative Ltd

Known as the Chief Cabbage, Lawrence seeded Cabbage Tree in 1996, a time when the Internet was still unheard of by most businesses in New Zealand.  With a team of nearly 20 these days, and many of New Zealand’s leading tourism businesses as clients, Cabbage Tree is now firmly focused on the Web as a critical tool for tourism.  Lawrence’s role these days is to follow trends and developments in both the technology and tourism sectors.

Web development is now far more than just great design and development, and his current focus is on the best use of social media, search engine optimisation and analytics, as well as mobile within your online marketing.
