TIA supports and is an active participant in the Visiting Drivers project, led by the New Zealand Transport Agency. The project has identified and is delivering a range of actions to deliver safe outcomes.
Crashes involving foreign drivers can have a negative impact on the support of host communities for international visitors. TIA advocates for a resilient national and regional roads network that recognises the needs of the visiting driver. Road resilience that promotes safe driving practices (e.g. passing lanes, signage and rest stops) also contributes significantly to a positive visitor experience, and improved regional dispersal.
